Max Thornbury is learning the role of Hamlet with the help of a home-made rehearsal recording. 

As he reflects on the events of his life and the reluctance of casting directors to consider fat-man Hamlets, the recording takes on a life of its own: friends and colleagues speak Shakespeare's lines in their dialogues with Max. 

Comedy turns to tragedy as Max's sinister and guilty secret is revealed. 

Hamlet: Tragedy of a Fat Man has a running time of approximately 45 minutes. 

Hamlet: Tragedy of a Fat Man was premiered at the Etcetera Theatre in London in the summer of 2002.  Max Thornbury was played by Simon Fisher-Becker, and the play was directed by Kirsty Bennett. 

This production toured in 2002/3, in a double bill with an adaptation of The Fall, by Albert Camus.  It was revived in autumn 2003 by Tilt-Yard Theatre Company at the Bullion Room Theatre, Hackney Empire.
